CANCER SUPPORT

Personalised supportive care throughout your cancer journey

Supporting you throughout treatment, recovery and beyond.

Living with cancer involves far more than treating the disease itself.

Modern cancer treatments continue to improve outcomes and offer new hope to many people. At the same time, treatment can bring physical, emotional and practical challenges that affect everyday life, sometimes from the moment of diagnosis and often long after treatment has finished.

At Rowan Health, we provide personalised supportive care designed to work alongside your oncology team. Every programme is tailored to your diagnosis, your treatment pathway and your individual needs, helping you prepare for treatment, navigate its challenges and support your recovery.

Every cancer treatment follows a protocol.
We believe supportive care should too.

Rather than offering the same support to everyone, we carefully build a personalised programme that evolves throughout your treatment and recovery, adapting as your needs change.

Why Cancer Support Matters

Cancer treatment is about much more than treating the disease.

Many people experience challenges that can affect their quality of life throughout treatment and recovery. Fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, digestive symptoms, sleep disturbance, pain, reduced physical function and emotional adjustment may make everyday activities considerably more difficult, even when treatment is progressing well.

Supportive care aims to reduce the impact of these challenges while helping individuals remain as healthy, active and independent as possible throughout their cancer journey.

Working alongside your oncology team, our supportive care programmes are designed to help you:

  • Prepare for treatment with greater confidence

  • Reduce the impact of treatment-related side effects

  • Maintain physical function and independence

  • Support recovery throughout treatment

  • Promote long-term health and wellbeing after treatment

Our role is not to replace your oncology care. It is to provide additional personalised support that complements the treatment you are already receiving.

Our objective is to help individuals:

Maintain function

Improve comfort

Strengthen resilience

Adapt to change

Support recovery & wellbeing

HOW OUR SUPPORT WORKS

Personalised care. Proactive. Adapted to your journey

Every person's experience of cancer is different.

Even two people receiving the same treatment may have different priorities, medical histories and recovery goals. For this reason, we do not use standardised treatment packages.

Instead, every supportive care programme begins with understanding your individual situation before developing a structured plan tailored specifically to you.

Understanding You

Your initial assessment explores your diagnosis, treatment pathway, current health, medical history, symptoms and personal priorities. This allows us to build a clear picture of your needs before support begins.

Understanding Your Treatment

Different cancer treatments affect the body in different ways. By understanding your specific treatment pathway, we can identify the challenges most likely to affect you and introduce supportive strategies as early as possible.

Building Your Personalised Programme

Your programme is developed specifically for your situation. Depending on your needs, it may combine education, rehabilitation, symptom management, lifestyle guidance and carefully selected therapeutic approaches designed to complement your oncology care.

Personalised Support Resources

Where appropriate, your programme may also include a Personalised Oncology Support Kit, providing treatment-specific guidance, practical self-management resources and individual recommendations to help you navigate treatment with greater confidence.

Ongoing Review

As treatment progresses, your supportive care programme evolves with you. Recommendations are reviewed and adapted throughout treatment, recovery and survivorship, ensuring that support remains relevant at every stage of your journey.

How We Support You Throughout Your Cancer Journey

Every cancer journey is unique, and your needs are likely to change over time.

Supportive care is therefore adapted not only to the treatment you are receiving, but also to where you are in your journey—from preparing for treatment to recovery and long-term survivorship.

Before Treatment Begins

Whenever possible, we encourage patients to begin supportive care before treatment starts.

This allows us to establish a clear understanding of your health, identify potential areas of vulnerability and help you prepare for the physical and emotional challenges that may lie ahead.

Early support may include education, practical self-management strategies and preparation of your personalised supportive care programme, helping you approach treatment with greater confidence.

During Active Treatment

As treatment progresses, supportive care evolves alongside your oncology pathway.

Depending on your treatment and individual needs, support may help you manage:

  • Cancer-related fatigue

  • Peripheral neuropathy

  • Digestive symptoms and nausea

  • Mucositis and oral discomfort

  • Sleep disturbance

  • Cognitive changes ("chemo brain")

  • Pain and reduced mobility

  • Skin and nail changes

  • Emotional wellbeing and resilience

Our aim is to help you maintain the highest possible level of function and quality of life throughout treatment.

Recovery and Survivorship

Completing treatment is an important milestone, but recovery often continues well beyond the final hospital appointment.

Many people continue to experience fatigue, reduced fitness, cognitive changes or uncertainty about returning to work and everyday life.

Support during this stage focuses on rebuilding strength, restoring confidence and helping you move forward after treatment with the best possible quality of life.

Support Tailored to Your Treatment

Although every programme is personalised, understanding your treatment pathway helps us anticipate the challenges most commonly associated with different cancer treatments.

Chemotherapy

Different chemotherapy regimens produce different patterns of side effects.

Support may focus on fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, digestive symptoms, mucositis, sleep disturbance, cognitive changes and maintaining physical function throughout treatment.

Radiotherapy

Support is adapted according to the area being treated and may focus on fatigue, local tissue effects, skin reactions, swallowing difficulties, rehabilitation and recovery.

Immunotherapy

Because immunotherapy works by stimulating the immune system, side effects differ from those seen with chemotherapy.

Support focuses on maintaining wellbeing, recognising important changes early and helping patients navigate treatment with confidence.

Hormonal Therapy

Long-term hormonal therapy can affect quality of life in many different ways.

Support may help individuals experiencing fatigue, hot flushes, sleep disturbance, joint discomfort, cognitive changes and the challenges associated with prolonged treatment.

Targeted and Antibody-Based Therapies

Targeted therapies are often associated with treatment-specific side effects.

Support is adapted according to the particular treatment being received and the individual's response throughout therapy.

CAR-T Cell Therapy

CAR-T therapy places unique demands on both the body and mind.

Support focuses on recovery, rebuilding physical function, cognitive resilience, emotional wellbeing and quality of life following treatment.

Surgery

Following cancer surgery, supportive care may focus on pain management, mobility, physical rehabilitation, scar recovery and returning to normal daily activities.

Your Personalised Oncology Support Kit

For many patients, supportive care extends beyond appointments.

Where appropriate, your personalised programme may include a Personalised Oncology Support Kit, prepared specifically for your diagnosis, treatment pathway and anticipated needs.

Rather than waiting until challenges develop, the aim is to ensure that you have practical guidance and resources available from the beginning of treatment.

Depending on your individual programme, your support kit may include:

  • Personalised written guidance

  • Treatment-specific educational resources

  • Practical self-management tools

  • Lifestyle and nutritional recommendations

  • Recovery planning

  • Individualised homeopathic or herbal preparations where appropriate

  • Clear guidance on symptoms that should be reported promptly to your oncology team

Your Oncology Support Kit is not a standard package. It is prepared as a practical extension of your personalised supportive care programme and evolves alongside your treatment as your needs change.

Additional Investigations (when appropriate)

During cancer treatment, selected laboratory investigations may sometimes help us better understand factors that could influence supportive care and recovery. Depending on your situation, this may include reviewing nutritional status, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, markers of inflammation, liver and kidney function, or other relevant results already available through your oncology team.

Where additional investigations are considered helpful, these will always be discussed with you beforehand and are only recommended when they are likely to influence your personalised supportive care programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can supportive care replace my cancer treatment? No. Our supportive care programmes are designed to work alongside conventional cancer treatment, not instead of it. Our role is to complement the care provided by your oncologist, cancer nurse specialist and wider healthcare team, helping you manage the physical, emotional and practical challenges that may arise during treatment and recovery.

When is the best time to start supportive care? Whenever possible, we recommend starting before treatment begins. Early support allows us to understand your treatment pathway, identify potential challenges and introduce practical strategies before treatment starts. However, supportive care can also be beneficial during treatment, after treatment has finished or at any stage of recovery and survivorship.

What happens during my first appointment? Your initial consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes. Together, we review your diagnosis, treatment pathway, medical history, current symptoms and personal priorities. Following this assessment, we develop a personalised supportive care programme tailored to your individual needs. Where appropriate, we will also discuss preparation of your Personalised Oncology Support Kit.

Will I receive the same programme as other patients? No. Every supportive care programme is personalised. Even two people receiving the same cancer treatment may have different health backgrounds, symptoms and recovery goals. Your programme is therefore designed specifically for your diagnosis, treatment pathway and individual needs, and is reviewed regularly as your treatment progresses.

What is included in the Personalised Oncology Support Kit? Every Oncology Support Kit is individually prepared and reflects your personalised supportive care programme. Depending on your treatment pathway and clinical needs, it may include treatment-specific guidance, practical self-management resources, educational information, lifestyle recommendations and, where appropriate, selected homeopathic preparations, herbal medicines or other supportive resources. Not every patient requires the same kit, and its contents are adapted as your needs evolve throughout treatment and recovery.

Which cancer treatments do you support? Our supportive care programmes are designed to complement modern oncology treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapies, antibody-based therapies, surgery and CAR-T cell therapy. Because every person's situation is different, support is always tailored to your diagnosis, treatment pathway and individual circumstances rather than the type of cancer alone.
